EIGHT WEEKS TO GO
- SELF MOVE / MOVING SERVICE?
Decide if you’d like to do a self move or engage an moving service / rent a truck. Confirm on your moving date and details. - GET RID OF ITEMS
Decide which items to keep, and which to get rid of.
FOUR WEEKS TO GO
- PACKING SUPPLIES
Do not forget to order your packing supplies – Boxes, Tapes, Bubble Wraps, ahead of time. - UPDATE NEW ADDRESS
Mail out change of address cards for insurance, banks, credit card bills, etc. - PACK NON-ESSENTIALS
Start by packing items that you seldom use. - PACK SMARTLY
Smaller boxes for heavier items, larger boxes for lighter bulkier items - LABEL CONTENTS
Write the contents of each box and the room it is destined for.
TWO TO ONE WEEK TO GO
- DISCONTINUE / START UP SERVICES
Make arrangement to discontinue current service / schedule start up of new service for
TV / Internet / Telephone
Utility – Electricity / Gas / Water
Newspaper / Magazine Subscriptions - FOR CONDO-DWELLERS, SUBMIT YOUR MOVING FORM TO YOUR CURRENT AND NEW CONDO’S MANAGEMENT OFFICE
There is no rule about when you can move in and out of your HDB flat, but movers are allowed to start work at condos only during weekdays from 9am to 5pm, and up to 1pm on Saturdays. Moving on Sundays and public holidays is strictly prohibited. Be sure to remember to submit your moving form, otherwise, the security guards might not allow your movers to commence work. - PACK A BOX OF MUST HAVES
Essentials for the first few days in new home. Label with “Load last / Open first”.
Pack items like medicine, comfortable clothes, towels, toiletries, cleaning items (mop, broom etc.) - CONFIRM EVERYTHING
If engaging a moving service, call to confirm on date and time. - USE UP
Plan to use up perishables / food items before the move.
TWO DAYS TO GO:
- UNPLUG ELECTRONICS
Dry refrigerators to be moved. Disconnect washing machines and drain water. - SAFEGUARD VALUABLES
Keep valuables (money, jewelry, etc) that you’ll personally transport to your new home.
MOVING DAY – MOVING OUT:
- Leave the whole day for your move, to supervise on last minute details.
- Check each room and closet before moving
MOVING DAY – MOVING IN:
- Supervise placement of boxes and furniture.
- Check for damages.
Inspect large items; look for boxes that are either crushed or open. - Make a final inspection to check for left behind items.
